Shab E Barat 2025 is going to observe on Tuesday, March 7, 2025, in the Indian Sub-continent e.g Pakistan, India, Bangladesh. It is the fifteenth day of eighth Islamic Lunar Calendar Sha’ban 1444. Here I have written about the details history, prayers, and date. I have tried my best to clear the concepts.

Shab e Barat date in the Islamic calendar
This Holy Night is the fifteenth day of Islamic Calendar Shaban. Shaban is the Next month of Rajab and Previous month of holy Ramadan. This is the eighth month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar. Literally, Shaban means distribution & Spreads.
Laila-Tul-Barat is the night of forgiveness who seeks mercy to Allah (SWT).In this night, Allah (SWT) descends to the lower heaven.

Shab E Barat 2025 date in Pakistan & India
In 2025 is observed in the fifteenth Shaban. It solely depends on the Sunrise and Sunset. In India, and Pakistan Laila-Tul Barat will be celebrated on March 7, 2025. The Muslim Ummah in the Indian sub-continent will observe this day on this day.

Shab e barat date in Bangladesh 2025
The Shab e Barat celebration falls on March 7 in Bangladesh. The prayers and other activities start from the evening of 6th March. But the Government holiday falls on March 7. People do feast and prayer on this day. The date is fixed by the national moon sighting committee.
History of Shab-E-Barat
“Shab-E-Barat” the word came from the two words “Shab” & “Barat”.”Shab” is a Persian word which means night. There is a contradiction between the word “Barat”.Somebody tells it came from an Arabic word which means freedom and somebody tell it came from Persian which means fate. So we get the word Shab-E-Barat “The Night of Fate” or “The, of Freedom”.In Arabic, the night is called “Lailatun Nisfi Min Sha’ban” which means the middle night of Sha’ban. In the Indian subcontinent, the night is known as “Shab-E-Barat”.

There is no direct source of this night in the Holy Quran. But some hints of this day can be found in “Siah Sittah” along with some hadith book. There is history can be found in the hadith described by Imam Al-Tirmidhi. According to the hadith, One night the wife of Greatest prophet Hazrat Mohammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) woke up but she couldn’t found Hazrat Mohammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in bed. Then she starting to find him & she discovered him in Jannatul Baki graveyard. The prophet said that at the night of Sha’ban, Allah comes to the nearest sky and forgives more people than the amount of hair on the goats of `Bani Kalb`. It is explained in books that the tribe of `Bani Kalb` had more goats than any other tribe in Arabia. At the bottom of the hadith, Al-Tirmidhi mentioned that first Muslim Caliph Hazrat Abu Bakr explained that.
The celebration of Shab E Barat
Though there is ambivalence of celebrating Shab E Barat, People celebrate the day solemnly.
- People pray to Allah for their welfare the whole night.
- The mosques are well decorated with light, flowers.
- The mosque remains lousy with people.
- Everybody requiems relatives, friends.
- Delicious sweets, Halwa, Zarda are cooked.
- Good food is arranged in every home.
- People spend the whole night by Salah, reading Quran & Dhikr.
- Most people spend the day by starvation.
Shab E Barat Prayers
Laylatul Barat is the night of blessing. In this night, Allah (SWT) spreads the hand of mercy. The Muslim Ummah seeks forgiveness to the Almighty.
Every Muslim should spend as much time as possible in prayers. Nafl Salaah and Quran recitation should be the main task on this night.
A Hadith from Prophet Mohammad (SAW) has said,
A person who read Darood Sharif 3000 times and bless me I will assure his forgiveness on the day of judgment
Nafl Salah of Shab E Barat (lailatul Barat)
- During the Layla-Tul-Barat read the following Dua 40 times between the time of Asr & Maghrib
La hola Wala Kuwata Illabilhil Aliyul Azim
- After Magrib, read 6 Raka’at Nafl Salaah
(2 Raka’at Daraze Umar, 2 Raka’at Dafa-e-Bela, 2 Rakat for prosperity)
- Each Raka’at of above Salah after reciting Surah Fatiha read Surah Al Ikhlas 11 times.
- After Salam Read 2 Rakats of Surah Yaseen and Nisfe Shaban once each.
- After Isha Salah read the following Nafl Salah
- 2 Raka’at Nafl Salat of Shab E Barat with Ayatul Kursi(1) and Surah Ikhlas(15 Times)
- After each 2 Rakat recite Darood Sharif 100 times.
- 8 Rakats Naft Salah with four salaam
- Qudr and Sura Ikhlas 25 times Each Rakat
- 8 Rakat Nafl Salat of Shab E Barat with 10 times Ikhlas
- 14 rakats Nafat Shab E Barat with seven Salam
- Recite Surah Fatiha, Kafir on, Ikhlas, Falak, Nas each time.
- Read Ayatul Kursi and Istekfar 101 times between two salam
After Salah, Do ziarat and Dua for all the Muslim Ummah.
Why Shab E Barat Is Celebrated
Those Muslims who celebrate Shab e Barat, the reason they are celebrating this day and night as a holy festival can be presented in this way.
- Allah decides the luck of Human this night.
- Allah Forgives all sins of his creations who asks forgiveness to him on the night.
- On This Night Allah Revealed the Holy Quran
- On this day 12th Imam of Shia Muslim will be born
Below we’ve tried to explain this reason and tried to reveal the actual truth behind the celebration of this Mid Sha’ban Celebration.
Shab E Barat in Quran
Most of the Scholars of Islam say that there is no direct indication about Shab E Barat in Quran. Though there are others who believe that, there is one indication in Sura al-Dukhan about this night. Their verse says that on this night the holy Quran was revealed.
“We sent it (the Qur’an) down during a blessed night. We are truly warners. In that night is made distinct every affair of wisdom” [Surah al-Dukhan (44:3-4)]
But In Sura Al-Qadr, Allah clearly said that the Holy Quran was revealed in the month of Ramadan and the night was Shab e Qadr. As a result, the Ayah of sura Al-Dukhan is referring to sura Al-Qadr. Most of the Mufassir e Quran says that there is no doubt about this. Those Muslims who celebrates Shab e Barat with this, they also don’t have any other indication from Quran about this night.
Shab E Barat in Hadith
Muslims who celebrate Shab e Barat, are referring some hadiths as well about this night. But Most of the Muhaddesin are considered those hadiths as weak hadith and cannot be used as strong evidence about Laylat al Barat. Most of the Islamic Scholars also agreed with this. There are others who considered those hadiths as a reference to celebrating Shab e Barat as a festival.
Shab E Barat in Islam
We all know that there is nothing more important than the Quran and Hadith in Islam. The discussion about Shab E Barat in Islam is divided into two-part. Most of the Scholars are replying against it and some Muslims who celebrate it; say to defend it. But in a way, there are millions of Muslims who celebrate this night as a holy festival. Another part of the Muslim community called Shia or Shitte Muslim is celebrating this night because the 12th Imam of Muslim Imam Mahdi will be born on this day. Though, there is no authentic resource to ensure this.
